Yongma Falls in Seoul

I know many of you, including some members of this very site, are coming to Korea this summer for BTS’s reunion. So I’d love to introduce a few hidden gems that most ARMYs don’t know about.

Let’s start with Yongma Falls.

Can you imagine a towering waterfall in the middle of a city? In Seoul, there’s one just minutes from a subway station. Yongma Waterfall is the tallest human-made waterfall in Asia, built into the rocky cliffs of Yongma Mountain, which was once used as a quarry.

Though artificial, the waterfall’s dramatic cascade and cool spray create a surprising sense of grandeur and calm. It consists of three separate streams. The central one is called Yongma Falls, named after the mythical “dragon horse” (yongma, 龍馬 in Chinese character). To the left is Blue Dragon Falls, and to the right, White Horse Falls. Yongma Falls stands out with a height of 51.4 meters over two tiers and a width ranging from 3 to 10 meters. Blue Dragon Falls is 21 meters tall, and White Horse Falls is 21.4 meters.

The falls only operate from May through August, so those of you coming for the reunion are in luck! You’ll get to see it flowing in full force.

One of the best things about this spot is how easily accessible it is by public transportation. From Line 7’s Yongmasan Station, take Exit 2 and follow the Seoul Dulle-gil (Seoul Trail) guide map. It’s super beginner-friendly. After a 5–6 minute walk, you’ll spot a sculpture labeled “Yongma Waterfall Park” along the main road. The park entrance is just across from it, at 1-4 Myeonmok-dong, on the slopes of Yongmasan.

On a hot and humid summer day (believe me, Korean summers are quite muggy), the cool mist of the falls might be just what you need!
